  Fuji-Xerox® XP 5/10 (P1)

Info Tech Specs Products Tech Docs Engine Compatibility

Reference Info
The XP5/10 (P1) engine, manufactured by Fuji-Xerox®, has been primarily used by Apple® and Xerox® in their 5 and 10 ppm desktop laser printers. Pitney Bowes® has also utilized the XP5/10 engine in their 9700 series fax models. In 1993, Apple introduced LaserWriter® Select models 300 and 310 featuring 5 ppm and 300 dpi resolution. Later, the LaserWriter Select 360 was introduced, operating at 10 ppm and offering 600 dpi resolution. In 1994, Xerox introduced its version of the XP5/10 engine in the 10 ppm 4510 and 5 ppm 4505 printer models in a move to compete in the PC printer market head-to-head with HP's comparable LaserJet® models. The 4505 was priced exactly the same as the HP's LJ4L, offering a slight advantage of higher print speed (5 ppm vs. 4 ppm) and the 4510 was priced the same as the LJ4, again with an advantage in print speed (10 ppm vs. 8 ppm).

The XP5/10 cartridge resembles the physical design of the LX cartridge. The mag roller used in the XP5/10 cartridge is silver in color, which helps to quickly distinguish it from Canon®-based mag rollers. Most unusual about the cartridge is the very limited access for replacing the wiper blade. The screws for the blade are enclosed in the waste bin section and are accessible only through an ultrasonically-welded waste bin cover.
