Static Control participates in annual Manufacturing Day events in Lee County
I recently had the pleasure of representing Static Control at Manufacturing Day on October 6, 2017. The event for Lee County is hosted by Central Carolina Community College and held each year at the Innovation Center in Sanford, NC. This was a great opportunity to be able to speak with students, let them know what Static Control does and generally connect with the community.
Manufacturing Day is a national event celebrating modern manufacturing, designed to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. High school and college students from Lee County, where Static Control is located, attended along with students from several surrounding counties.
We stocked our stand with product brochures, pens and journals to hand out, along with quite a few cartridges to show off the finished product. We also featured some items from MakeShaper, our subsidiary that manufactures filament for desktop 3D printers. Many of the high school students are involved in a technology program and were familiar with 3D printing so this certainly left an impact - cutting-edge technology is being manufactured right here in their own community!
The students asked great questions about the types of jobs available as well as what education or training would be required. Since we are actively expanding our manufacturing operations and project the growth to continue in the coming years, planting these seeds for future recruits is important.
According to the N.C. Department of Commerce Labor and Economic Analysis Division (LEAD), thirty-three percent of Lee County’s workforce is employed due to manufacturing. We hope to make that number even higher in the future.
All in all it was an excellent day to meet students and educators, along with networking with other local manufacturers.
